How to Choose a Wedding Ring
A wedding ring is worn every day for decades, so a few decisions matter more than the rest. Here is how we help couples choose.

Start with the metal
Many of our women’s bands are 14K gold in white, yellow or two-tone. 14K is 58.3% pure gold and 10K is 41.7%; a higher karat means more gold and a softer metal. White gold is commonly finished with rhodium plating, which wears over time and can be refreshed.

Choose a width and profile
Women’s bands commonly run about 2 to 6 mm wide and men’s about 5 to 8 mm. Narrow bands look delicate and stack easily; wide bands look bolder and can fit more snugly. A comfort-fit band has a slightly rounded inside that slides over the knuckle more easily.

Decide how much sparkle
A plain band is the classic choice. Diamond bands add sparkle, and anniversary and eternity bands carry stones across the top or all the way around. Channel-set stones sit protected inside the band, while prong-set stones sit higher and catch more light.

Try bands with your engagement ring before you decide. A straight band sits flat against a simple solitaire, while a curved or contour band nests around a halo or a low setting. Matching the metal color is the easiest place to start.

Get the size right
Fingers swell in heat and shrink in cold, so size them when your hands are warm. A wide band can feel snugger than a narrow one, so you may want a slightly larger size. We resize rings at our own bench, but bands with stones all the way around can be limited.

We are a family-owned jeweler that has been on Main Street since 1920, serving Sturbridge, Charlton, Webster, Dudley, Spencer, Oxford, Auburn and the surrounding Worcester County towns. We are open Tuesday through Friday from 9:30am to 5:30pm and Saturday from 9:30am to 3:00pm, and walk-ins are welcome.
What is the difference between a wedding band, an anniversary band and an eternity band?
A wedding band is the ring exchanged at the ceremony and can be plain or set with diamonds. An anniversary band, often called a half-eternity band, has diamonds across the top of the band. An eternity band has diamonds set all the way around, which can make it harder to resize. Shop anniversary bands.
How much does a wedding band cost?
The price depends on the metal, the width and how many diamonds are set in the band, and bands with more gold, more diamonds or a wider profile generally cost more.
